LEARN TO SWIM …Dolphin Swimming Club

By popular demand and the need to encourage children to swim, Stella’s School is looking for students who would like to learn how to swim .

The Dolphin Swimming Club , is a elite swimming club , run by National Coaches who want to promote swimming and life survival skills amongst the young here in Brunei .
Their hard work and dedication ,does pay off,as a lot of the swimmers that join them, go on to join the National Scheme here in Brunei .

Classes are held on Friday and Sunday mornings and are charged on a monthly rate .

If you are interested and want your child /children to join you need to register your
details at the school office by Thursday 2nd February 2012 . Your details will then be passed to the club and they will contact you directly .

A trip to the Empire Cinema on Saturday, 26th November 2011 has been organised for all year 6 students to watch the movie 'Tintin'. The cost will be $14 per child which includes bus fare, movie ticket, drink and popcorn.

The bus will be leaving the school at 8.20 am and we should be back at school by 11.30 am.

CELEBRATION FOR HARI RAYA AIDIL ADHA, AWAL TAHUN HIJRAH & DOA SELAMAT

Please be informed that the primary will be celebrating Hari Raya Aidil Adha, Awal Tahun Hijrah and Doa Selamat on Thursday, 24th November 2011. Students are encouraged to wear Baju Melayu/ Baju Kurong on this day and there will be a small class party.

REPORTS

Reports and Examination papers will be passed out on Saturday, 26th November 2011 and the parent/ teacher meeting will be held on Tuesday, 29th November 2011 (8 am - 12 pm whole school).
The last school day for primary will be Saturday, 26th November. Children will be dismissed early on this day.

2012

School will re- open for all Year 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 on Tuesday, 3rd January 2012. For Year 1 and new students, school will re-open on Wednesday, 4th January 2012.
Next year, there will be a slight change for 'going home time' for Year 1, 2, 3. These students will be dismissed at 11.50 am the rest (Year 4, 5, 6) will be dismissed at 12.05 pm.

On behalf of the school I would like to wish all our parents and students a Happy Holiday and Best Wishes for 2012.

BACA DOA SELAMAT FOR PSR 2011 - MASJID PULAIE - THURSDAY, 29TH SEPTEMBER 2011

Please be informed that the Doa Selamat forthe Year Six Students will be held at Masjid Pulaie on Thursday, 29th September 2011 at 8 a.m.

The Baca Doa Selamat is done each year to give blessing to the students who are doing PSR of Stella's School.

Muslim students/ Parents should wear the correct attire to perform prayers and Non Muslim students should be covered up (meaning long trousers/ shirt/ baju kurong etc). All Muslim parents are invited to perform this prayer.

Non Muslim students are encouraged to attend and will only sit at the back during the prayer.

Students are allowed to bring bottles of mineral water (used for Baca Yassin). Please make sure these bottles are CLEARLY labeled with your child's name.

After the prayers there will be light refreshments and parents are allowed to bring along food to share for this important occasion.

The morning classes will then need to be taken back to school (by parents) as lessons will start at 10 am.

Afternoon students will needed to go home and return to school in the afternoon.

SAFETY AROUND THE SCHOOL COMPOUND

We are continually monitoring ways to improve the safety for students around the school and would like to seek the parents cooperation on the following:-

If you have collected a child from the KG section and have to wait for a Primary sibling- PLEASE supervise properly the kindergarten children and NOT allow them to run all around the place. On numerous occasions, staff find kindergarten students running all over the place including running through the car park, ALONE. This is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

(Afternoon students) - Some afternoon students arrive at school before 11:15 am whilst the morning session is still functioning and the students run all around the compound, disturbing classes that are in session.

Let me remind Afternoon parents that there is NO SUPERVISION of any child that arrives to school BEFORE 12 noon and that the school will not be held responsible for any accidents to any students that arrives before the stated time.

Parents should not request any PRIMARY students to go and collect a sibling from the kindergarten building.

Parents should give way and be patient whilst driving around the school compound. Parents are required to be EXTRA VIGILANT and watch out the students/ teachers/ Parents who might be crossing the road.

STUDENTS should always seat at the back seat of the car.

HARI RAYA/ TEACHER'S DAY CELEBRATION

Hari Raya/ Teacher's Day celebration for Primary students of Stella's School will be held on Thursday, 22nd September 2011 during break time. Parents are welcome to bring along a 'small amount of food' to share amongst the class. Please do not bring junk food ( such as sweets, fizzy drinks and jellies). The students will be dismissed at 11.30 am (morning class) and 4.45 pm afternoon class.

Saturday, 24th September 2011 has been declared a special holiday for ALL schools in Brunei Darussalam to allow teachers to attend the special celebrations at the International Convention Centre (ICC).

It is Stella's School relentless mission to encourage our students to read and due to popular demand, we are running the ISBC book again. There is a great selection for all ages, reasonably priced and the quality of the books are good. In addition to this, the school receives a percentage of free books for each of our libraries (KG and Primary) so our students benefit again.

Please be reminded that the dateline for the Book Club order is Saturday, 8th October 2011 as we need to immediately get off the orders in time for the books to arrive before the holidays.

The School would like to remind ALL parents that it is paramount that ALL Parents/Guardians /Drivers / Maids be responsible and act with consideration and patience whilst driving / entering the school premises .

The School would like to point out that several parents/grandparents/ drivers / maids (after collecting their child from the kg building ) allow the kg student to run freely around the large premises WITHOUT supervision .On numerous occasions , staff have to round up these children and 'pass them back ' to the guardian ! Allowing the children to run freely without supervision, is extremely dangerous and TOTAL neglect by the guardian .

Parents /guardians/ Drivers are NOT allowed to park along the slip road as this jams up the system and prevents the staff from being able to see other parents coming .

The students will be learning about safety and road safety this term and we hope the parents will support us in this mission by reminding your child(ren) of the dangers.

RE: PSR EXAMINATION (MIB) Thursday, 15th September 2011

Please take note that the MIB/ PSR Examination will be held throughout Brunei Darussalam on Thursday, 15th September 2011 in the morning. Attendance is COMPULSORY as this is a Government Examination. All students MUST be at school by 7.15 am (so that we can go through drilling prior to the exam).

Afternoon students MUST be at school 7.15 am and will be allowed to go home at 10 am. There will still be afternoon classes for the afternoon session.

Please note that school T shirts will be on Monday, 18th July 2011 (in the middle building).

On Thursday, 21st July 2011 school will be closed for one day for ALL kindergarten students only. This is to allow the teachers to move the Kg 1 and Kg 2 class furniture back into the renovated building and for Kg 3 teachers to help. Primary students are still required to come to school on that day. (they are not affected by this move).

On Saturday, 23rd July 2011 ALL KG 1 and KG 2 students should go straight to their new classrooms (located in the renovated bungalow) Kg 3 students will remain in the middle building. Parents are requested to park their cars in the car park and accompany their child to their classroom.

On Saturday, 23rd July 2011 ALL upper Primary students will be having sports day and are required to be at school before 7.30 am (this includes afternoon upper primary). The upper primary students will be dismissed at 10 am (lower Primary will have normal timetable).

On Monday 25th July 2011 ALL lower Primary will be having sports day and are required to be at school before 7.30 am (this includes afternoon lower primary). The lower primary students will be dismissed at 10 am (upper Primary will have normal timetable).

On Tuesday 26th July 2011 ALL YEAR 4 STUDENTS will have a visit by the school Health Team in the morning. (this also includes afternoon children) . If you do not allow your child to give a sample of their blood to the nurses, please refrain from sending your child to school on this date. Year 4 students will be dismissed at 10am. There will be no classes for Year 4 afternoon children on this date.

Stella's School was very fortunate to be invited to join the 5th Cohort of the School Leadership Programme (SLP) jointly organized by UBD and the Ministry Of Education . This was a 4 month workshop whereby we had to create a project and a Best practice . The Minister Of Education made regular visits during the 4 month to the workshops and we had the opportunity to ask questions to the Minister and the Ministry .

It was indeed an extremely proud moment , when we discovered that we had won the Best practice Award for our group and received our prize form the Minister at the graduation dinner last night .

Welcome back everyone ! It is difficult to believe that we are now in Term 3 ( half way through the year !)

We have a lot of plans for this term and we do hope that KG1 and KG2 will be able to move back into the bungalow before the end of July. The renovations are going well and if everything goes to plan we will be having a new up to date KG library , which will encourage more reading in Kindergarten . We are all looking forward to this and thank the parents for their understanding and support at this time .

If all goes well too , we plan to do class photos sometime in July and Year 2 will be having a field trip .

As I am sure you are all now aware, the office has moved to the middle building , and will move again later on, into a bigger room ( within the middle building )

RE: TRAFFIC CONGESTION

I am writing to remind all Parents/ Guardians/ Drivers to be considerate to other road user during peak hours.

No Parents/ Guardian/ Drivers should block any residential entrance or park in places that could add and worsen the traffic jam.

Parents/ Guardian/ Drivers must be vigilant and take note of children/ teachers/ parents crossing the compound.

M I B - PSR (SBA) 2011

Please be informed that MIB will be part of PSR 2011. Therefore the "Topical Tests" marks could be used towards your child's overall mark in PSR 2011.

As MIB (Year 6) has five chapters we have decided that we will be having five "Topical Tests " and the test dates are as follows:-

Chapter one = 1st week of April
Chapter Two = 1st week of May
Chapter Three = 1st week of June
Chapter Four - 1st week of July
Chapter Five = 1st week of Aug

There could be an exam (SBE) required from the students in September, so we will use all of August to revise the five chapters.

Let me stress, these tests are EXTREMELY important for your child's future secondary school and that will require full support from all involved.

If there are any changes, we will keep you informed.

RELIEF AID FOR THE FLOOD VICTIMS OF TUTONG DISTRICT

With reference to the recent devastating floods that have hit the Tutong District and in the spirit of National Day, Stella's School is organizing relief donations in the forms of clothing and food for the people affected.

We need your help...

If you have any clothing/ T shirts/ Trousers etc (Adult and children size) that you no longer require please bag them up and pass them to the school. (This will be great chance for a 'Spring Clean'.
Food. If you would like to donate food such as rice, Mee Goreng, Milo, Flour, Sugar, Susu manis or baby formula and tin food to name but a few, please pass them to the school so that we can box them up, ready for distribution.

We hope to have everything ready by Saturday, 5th February 2011.

So please bear in mind the next time you go shopping.. add a few things in your trolley for the victims of the flood, so that, as a Nation we can work together to try to easy their suffering.

BAKER BOOKS

It is one of our priorities to encourage children in our school to read a wide range of books. We are therefore pleased to offer parents of Stella's School the opportunity to purchase books for their children, at reasonable prices, from Baker Books (UK).

There will be a wide range of books to choose from all ages most of which are not available locally. From any purchase made, the school is able to select a minimum of 20% free books for our school library.

To purchase books please fill in the form clearly and include your child's class and choice of books together with the correct amount of payment.

A warm welcome to Year one,

Please take note of the following:-

(i) Early Dismissal

From Wednesday 5th January 2011 until Saturday 15th January 2011 the Year 1 students will be dismissed slightly earlier than usual. This is make sure the students are safe as they are unfamiliar with the building and the routine of primary life. Parents/ Guardians are to collect directly from the class.

Morning - 11.35 am
Afternoon - 4.45 pm

(ii) Covering of Books

Please note that in Primary, exercise books are covered according to subject.

English - Red
Malay - Green
Science - Yellow
Maths - Blue

This is to help students indicate their subject books easier.

(iii) Homework Diary

Each students will be issued with a "Homework Diary". This is used to record homework, messages etc. Please check the diary on a regular bases and sign.

(iv) Timetable

Lesson are now 'Timetabled" a copy of the timetable can be found inside the homework diary. If you have any further inquiries don't hesitate to approach the class teacher.
